When someone takes their own life at a gun range, we all feel the pressure because a firerarm was used.  This gets an article in the local news but; the peson who defended their life with the use of a firearm, usually does not make any news.  Of course we don't have to worry too much because, if Obama gets to be the Chief, most of our guns will be hidden or gone!

Tennessee

The state of Tennessee and Virginia had a short lived problem during that started on August 15th.  The state of Virginia sent in a form for Tennesse to read, sign, and return to the Virginia State Police.  When they did not receive the form, they removed the state of Tennessee from the list of states that they honor regarding carrying weapons.  This caused some concern especially from Tennessee Handgun Permit Holders who live in the Tri-Cities area.  That weekend was a gun show in Kingsport, Tennessee.  We contacted the Virginia State Police and were told about the form.

On Monday, we called the Tennessee Department of Safety (legal department) regarding the issue.  At that time they were not aware of the issue.  It concened that because the state of Tennessee not honors any license or permit issued by a state government.  They contacted the Virginia State Police.

Turns out that the form that Virginia was looking for was in the Handgun Permit Office.  It had not reached the Legal Department so, it was not sent back to Virginia.  When they got the form, they faxed it to the office of the Superintendent of the Virginia State Police.  Within twenty-four hours, the Virginia State Police had Tennesse back on the list of states they honor.  Read more on this at:

Tennessee Gun Stores & Ranges Have Their Problems in August

Chattanooga - The Ammo Dump in Chattanooga had their front window broken in and crooks stole some guns out of the store.  This store is located in a stip center and the thieves paid a visit at night.  Also, the owner Hal is a former L.E.O. and does training at the Chattanooga Gun Club.  He usually carries his gun and lets most know it.  However, he was making a visit to his local bank one day, and before he could do anything, he was in the middle of a bank robbery.  He reached for his gun and...where the hell is it?  He left his gun in the car.  He watch from below a desk and, maybe that is better since he is still alive with the same number of holes in his body that he was born with.

Chattanooga - The Sportsmans Indoor Gun Range also in Chattanooga, had a young grab and run crook, stop by their store.  When the crook started to run from the store, the owner, Carl Poston, gave a quick thought to pluggin the robber but, he held his shots because the robber was running away and was not a threat to anyone.  The robber was caught soon after running from the store.

Joelton - The young man came into the store and said he wanted to use the gun range.  After going over safety issues with the store employees, he went into the gun range.  After a while the employees heard the man speaking about killing himself.  They watched him on the monitor and called Metro Nashville Police.  When Metro Nashville Police Officers arrived, they spoke to the man on the phone and watched him on the monitor.  They were unable to talk him out of killing himself.  The young man (age 23), held the gun under his chin and pulled the trigger.

It is unfortunate but, this is something that is almost impossible to prevent.  In Las Vegas, every year people commit suicide at indoor gun ranges.  One thing that almost every suicide that occurs in a gun range has in common, is that the people practice before taking their life.  They normally use 75% of their ammo before doing the deed.   Strange but ture.  Another suicide that happend in Tennessee a few years ago was at Fugates Gun Store in Calhoun, Tennessee.

Clarksville - Rattle Snake Ridge Training Center was awarded a military contract from the Air Force.  They will be training Airmen in the proper and safe use of handguns.  This is not a tactical course.  However, these troops are in harms way from time to time and will have access to pistols.  Not sure if this will be an on-going contract or not.  However, this gun range and training center does good work with civilians, law enforcement, and the military.

Gun Show News

RK Gun Shows has bought another gun show in Denver, Colorado.  They purchased the show from Crossroads of the West.  Rex Kehrli who owns RK, has been expanding his shows into a number of states.  His gun shows are held in:  Arkansas, Georgia,  Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, and Oklahoma.  He is considered the largest Gun Show Promoter in the U.S.A., not for one large show, but for the number of shows he holds each weekend, and the number of states he holds the shows in.  Rex bought out Mike Holloway in Knoxville, and the  Kenny Woods Gun Shows in Kentucky.

One thing that most of his vendors and attendees both agree on, Rex and his crews are some of the nicest people to work with in the Gun Show business.  They DON'T have big heads and egos.

If you attend any RK Gun Show in any state, here is a $ 1.00 off coupon.

Pistol trumps baseball bat
in island driving confrontation
Published Saturday, August 9, 2008

Slow driving led to a confrontation between a 22-year-old Citadel student and an unidentified man involving a baseball bat and a pistol on Hilton Head Island, SC on Thursday afternoon, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office incident report.

The student, who was lost, had been driving slowly on Beach City Road looking for a doctor's office when he pulled into a parking lot to look at a map, according to the report.

A man driving a Porsche pulled in behind him and approached him carrying a baseball bat. The man was yelling about the student's driving.
The student pulled a Glock 23 pistol from his glove box and got out of his car, the report stated. The man with the bat put his hands up, returned to the Porsche and drove away.

The student called the sheriff's office from his parents' Hilton Head home. He was not charged in the incident.
